Monday Mashup

Got a few wins at work today.  Feel a little less lost on the current project but I'm not sure that's saying much.  Hopefully tomorrow will clear up a few more things and soon I will know a little about what I'm doing instead of absolutely nothing.  Set up an event for a group of friends.  Just to hang out and enjoy a few brews.  Should be a good time.

Gave a friend a ring.  Just wanted to hear a friendly voice today.  I have a very difficult time here sometimes.  There's just so much more I want out of life than what I currently have, it's hard to describe, but sometimes I get a little down.  It was just nice to talk to my friend, see what she was up to, joke around a bit.  She is one of the nicest people I've ever met so she always puts me in a good mood.  During our conversation she mentioned her admiration for not only the number of friends I had but the number of quality friends I sitll keep in touch with throughout time.  I guess it is pretty true.  Perhaps it's for selfish reasons, maybe I need that in my life, I don't know.  Can't be a bad thing though.  Even with the friends I have I still feel there are too few good and great friends in this world.  More people should have the quality of friends I do.

Found myself wishing I had the means to travel somewhere new once again.  Perhaps that's the kind of job I should get, although I don't know what jobs let you travel to cool new places constantly.  Anybody know the answer to that?

Time to hit the hay.  Didn't get a chance to work on a story I wrote the pretext for the other day.  I really like where the story is going, I'd like to elaborate on it but just didn't have time today.  I should tomorrow, coming straight home after work so I'll spend some time on that.  Time to see what the sandman brings tonight.

Wishing I had a good movie

It's kind of a lazy Sunday.  Had some lunch with friends, did a few things around the house, delicious food on the docket for dinner.  Just wish I had a new movie I wanted to watch.  Damn Netflix streaming lets me down sometimes.  The streaming content is getting much better.  Did you know that they offered Blockbuster the ability to buy them out for $50 million in 2000?  Now they are worth waaaaay more than that and Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy.  NICE!  The studios need to get with it and just allow all their stuff to be streamed.  Wishful thinking, I think at least one studio will always be stubborn.

Starving for Hip-Hop

It's been quite a while since the last time I've found a hip-hop artist to be excited about.  I have a wide range of musical interest but hip-hop is one of my absolute favorites.  I'm talking about Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Digable Planets, Da Bush Babees, Aesop Rock, Blackalicious and many more.  Look up any and all of those people.  Excellent artists.  Da Bush Babees album Gravity is one of my all time favorite albums and I listen to it often.  The last artist I heard and became excited about is a guy named Random aka Mega-Ran.  He uses a lot of 8-Bit samples in the tracks and raps about nerdy stuff.  I can relate to that.  Check him out if you haven't heard of him, http://megaran.com/, he has a lot of excellent music.  On top of that, I ran into him a few times and he's a cool guy so I definitely give him props when I can.  I'll have to look a little harder for the hip-hop.  The thing I'm most excited about currently?  Baseball is BACK!  Yes it's spring training, but I love spring training.

Just a Guy

I can't help it, if you're a hot chick then I want to sleep with you.  That's just the way it works as a guy.  Still, I feel like a scumbag sometimes.  Like when that hot chick who's my friend tells me that her and her boyfriend or husband are separating, I feel bad for her.  At the same time, in the back of my head, a voice says "YES! Back on the market."  It's a shitty thing to think but it's the truth.  If that's a girl that you wanted but couldn't have because she was married, of course you think the same thing.  Don't lie and say "No" because you're only lying to yourself, nobody believes you.  That voice? That's the inner brain manifestation of your penis' consciousness.  To be honest, most of the time, us guys don't have a shot with whoever this girl is but that doesn't stop us from wanting it to happen.  But then, every once in a while when the planets align correctly, it's a girl that confessed to being attracted to you when they were still locked down and said something to the effect of "if I weren't taken ..." When that girl becomes available, you have to jump on your chance.  If you don't that window of opportunity is going to close.  Most likely she doesn't view you as relationship material, she wants that rebound before she locks herself down again because in all likelihood she's a relationship person.  How do I know this?  Is she a woman?  She's a relationship person.  I know many women who have said that they weren't, and they might not be at the time (usually during college), but at some point a switch flips.  So let me be fully clear on this, I do not at any time condone hooking up with someone while they have a boyfriend or husband, but if that is no longer the case and that window of opportunity presents itself, you send yourself flying through that thing like a guy who just got kicked by Chuck Norris in an episode of Walker Texas Ranger.

Life goals, Batteries and ADD

I think, more difficult than obtaining a goal is figuring out what, exactly, is your goal.  I have some very broad goals in life, own my own business, get super rich and do whatever I want, travel the world, be happy.  Doesn't have to be exactly in that order, if I could be happy the entire time that would be great, but you get the picture.  Ultimately I would truly like to leave an indelibly excellent mark on the world.  Maybe I could solve global warming or fix starvation in a country.  That would be spectacular.  I'd truly like to make an everlasting impact on the world in a positive way (As everlasting as one human being can possibly be).  The thing about all of these goals is I don't know exactly how to get to that point.  I don't know what kind of business I want to start.  It would have to be something I'm passionate about or it wouldn't have any chance of succeeding.  It also needs the potential and ability to grow and be profitable or my dream of making tons of money is shot.  Money isn't all that important right?  Wrong.  All the stuff I want to do in life requires money.  WEIRD how it works like that.  I need a place to live, $, vehicle, $, food and water, $.  I like to go out and have a good time with friends, $$, and I love to travel and want to travel the world, $$$$$.  Sure, I could go places 1 or 2 at a time, but I want to enjoy these places while I'm young and have the energy to do all the fun stuff.  Right now I'm trying to work out a way to do the living and the traveling by hopefully being able to get a job in Europe.  I could travel around Europe without it having to be as expensive as it would be from the states, and eventually move back.

On a completely unrelated note: Somebody needs to make a serious breakthrough in battery technology.  My phone is awesome, my battery life sucks.  At the very least my phone should be able to go a solid day and a half with my constant checking of social networks and e-mail as well as web surfing.  This is pretty much bullshit.  Somebody do something NOW!!!!

Is there something I can do, other than getting a prescription, to help with ADD?  I'm pretty positive I have ADD, I would like to get checked out and most of the process would be covered by my medical insurance but the process is kind of ridiculous.  And the thing about the ridiculous process is, I have ADD so I keep forgetting or get side tracked whenever I start to initiate the process.  Also bullshit.

UPDATE: Someone told me something a short while after I made this post: "Focus on what you want to learn, not what you want to be."  Seems to make sense.  I suppose if I just focus on what I want to learn and what I love it may lead to in the right direction for me.

Suck It World!

Yeah, whatever.  I have a good life and all that but it's not what I want it to be yet so I have to keep working.  Should I be content or happy with what I have?  I'm sure a lot of people think I should but I don't want to be a desk jockey for the next 40 years of my life.  If I'm going to do that I can at least work for myself.  I do what I do right now and it's good.  But it's not great.  I want great.  I feel like if I settle for less than that I will always be semi-happy.  Never truly feel accomplished.  Honestly I don't know what's going into this thing but I'm a nerd at heart so there undoubtedly will be some nerdy stuff here.

I have a very technical and nerdy job at the moment but I definitely want to write a script and make or have the movie made.  Whichever.  I love sci-fi and I really feel there is a lack of good sci-fi movies.  Heard an interview with a musician the other day who said something along the lines of "musicians want a certain type of song to be made and they wait and nobody makes it so they make it themselves."  I suppose that's what I'll have to do with the sci-fi movie genre.  I will probably use this blog a little as a tool for developing some writing, maybe just hash out pieces of a story and smash them into a whole.  It's tough to tap into any creative side when your job and life is simply full of technical work.  On a related note, I'm pretty stoked about Cowboys and Aliens.  Seems like a pretty original flick with a lot of potential.  We'll see how it turns out.
